More in depth information about what we do:

Orthopedic Yoga is a three pronged approach to overall structural balance. It combines movement and manual therapy, integrating the lengthening and strengthening aspects of an intelligently organized yoga practice with a hands-on therapeutic approach utilizing both myofascial release to remove adhesions and Neuromuscular Re-Facilitation to reconnect the brain to the tissue. During this week of focus on the spinal column, we will focus on balancing and healing this crucial area of the body, and we will have lots of fun!

In this beautiful setting we will enjoy daily Orthopedic Yoga for the Lower Back classes as well as evening therapeutic and educational workshops on Thai Massage, Acro Yoga, Therapeutic Flying and more.

We will utilize Postural Assessment skills for identifying structural distortions and tailoring home programs for their individual patterns. Orthopedic Physical Assessments will be used to identify possible anatomical pathologies. In depth instruction in the normal Anatomy, Biomechanics, Kinesiology and Muscle Functions of the spinal column will be available.

Then a synthesized approach will be utilized including

-intelligent Orthopedic Yoga for the Spinal Column asana sequences

-fascial release techniques for both self care and to use on clients

-(NRF) techniques for the sacrum and low back*

-Floating Therapeutics for healing, balance and bliss!**

*Neuromuscular Re-Facilitation (NRF) are assessments and tests for the muscles to create movement and stability in an optimal, efficient, pain-free manner. Many muscles, in the presence of pain, become inhibited in their functioning as a protective strategy for preventing further injury. As the nervous system creates this protective inhibition it also senses instability around the joint. This manifests as a limit in range of motion which present as tight, restricted tissue but instead are actually neurologically inhibited tissue; a problem that will not resolve with massage, exercise or bodywork. NRF is able to identify which muscles are inhibited and re-facilitates their ability to neurologically contract to create and control proper movement thus restoring stability to the joint.

**Floating Therapeutics delightfully takes our usual relationship with gravity and turns it on its head. Combining Acro Yoga with fascial release, we get a lengthening traction into the joints and soft tissues. By accentuating this traction with our hands doing gentle bodywork, the body releases old holding patterns faster and with less effort. It’s thrilling for the client and less demanding for the practitioner.
